Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires Sunday night into Monday morning.
Portage Avenue
Around 8:40 pm on January 31, 2021, firefighters were called to the 2200 block of Portage Avenue after receiving reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building.
Crews found smoke in the building when they arrived and determined that fire due to unattended cooking had started in one of the suites. The occupant of the suite had it mostly extinguished by the time emergency crews arrived. Firefighters ensured all of the hotspots were out then ventilated the smoke.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was deemed accidental.
Redwood Avenue
Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire in a vacant two-and-a-half-storey house in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue.
Around 1:10 am on February 1, 2021, firefighters were called to the structure fire and encountered heavy smoke. An offensive attack was launched with the fire declared under control at 1:56 am.
Crews searched the building and confirmed no one was inside. No injuries were reported.
Beach Avenue
Just before 7:00 am on Monday, February 1, 2021, fire crews responded to a structure fire in a single-family bungalow in the 700 block of Beach Avenue.
Heavy smoke was seen as crews arrived on the scene and an offensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control by 7:35 am.
The only person in the home at the time of the fire was able to get out before firefighters arrived. Paramedics assessed the individual on-scene and transported then to hospital in critical condition.
Firefigheres discovered a deceased dog inside the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
