Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews battled a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey home early Tuesday morning on Manitoba Avenue.
When firefighters arrived they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched a defensive attack until it was safe to transition to an offensive attack.
Everyone inside the building were able to get themselves out before crews arrived on the scene. Paramedics assessed two residents. Both were transported to hospital, one in stable the other in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
A cat was found dead inside the home due to fire-related injuries. Two other cats who were believed to be in the home have not been located.
The blaze was declared under control at 6:15 am. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The house suffered significant damage due to flames, water and smoke.
