Minutes after a tentative deal with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers was signed with CP Rail the Teamsters began setting up picket lines across the country.
Just after 9:00 pm Central time more than 3,000 conductors and locomotive engineers walked off the job. The union says that they are still at the table negotiating with the company and are hoping a settlement can be reached.
The strike effectively will shut down freight shipments by CP Rail including grain shipments.
