All seven previously reported cases have been lab confirmed.

Roussin is advising all Manitobans to cancel any non-essential international travel, including to the United States.

Those who are returning from international should self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days.

People who have returned from international travel, been told to isolate for 14 days or have cold or flu-like symptoms should not visit acute care or long-term care facilities including personal care homes.

Patients in acute care facilities like hospitals will only be allowed one visitor at a time. This rule does not apply to parents with children in hospital. Visitors who fall under special circumstances like people requiring an escort or going to see a patient nearing the end of their life may be permitted at the manager’s discretion.

Dr. Roussin reported that several phishing scams have shown up related to COVID-19. Scamers are asking people for credit card information to provide medication following positive results. Manitoba public health officials would never ask you for financial information. If you get this type of call, hang up it’s a scam. You can report this scam to the Canadian Unit-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
