The province will soon be adding more capacity for COVID-19 testing by teaming up with community-based doctors’ offices.
In an announcement Monday morning, October 19, 2020, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen said that they will be partnering with Doctors Manitoba to provide another option for people to get tested.
The initial clinics offering testing will focus on clinics that provide capacity to part of the province that need it with more physician testing being brought on board as future needs are identified.
“Doctors understand how important it is for Manitobans to have timely access to COVID-19 testing and that’s why physicians are stepping up to open their clinics to add more testing capacity,” said Dr. Cory Baillie, president, Doctors Manitoba. “Doctors Manitoba and the provincial government are working together to support medical clinics in offering testing, with all the necessary precautions in place.”
Public Health is working with participating clinics to ensure proper protocols are in place that will see enhanced disinfecting done a t the clinics and that patients being tested and those in the clinic for medical appointments are separated.
The first community medical clinic to offer testing will be Dakota Medical Clinic in Winnipeg. Testing is expected to begin at the clinic in the next few days.
The minister noted that information on how to access the testing at community-based doctors’ offices will be available soon.
