COVID-19 possible exposure warning at a school and care facilities

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 17 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,466.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 1.4 per cent

Two new cases in the Southern Health region, one case in the Prairie Mountain Health region, one case in the Interlake-Eastern Health region and 13 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

One of the cases today is a health-care worker connected to the outbreak in Steinbach at Bethesda Place bringing the total number of cases at Bethesda to 14 (eight staff and six residents)

There are 12 people being treated in hospital including three people in intensive care.

There are currently 269 active cases of COVID-19 in the province 1,181 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 16.

1,447 laboratory tests were completed on Monday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 157,440.

Possible exposures related to one additional school and two Winnipeg Regional Health Authority care facilities have been identified by public health.

St. Aidan’s Christian School at 400 Hargrave Street in Winnipeg had a possible exposure on September 10 and 11 as an asymptomatic individual was at school both days. The virus was not acquired at the school say officials. Close contacts have been contacted and advised to self-isolate. Public health advises that others at the school do not need to self-isolate but should self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. High-touch areas are receiving extra cleaning.

The second possible exposure site is Actionmarguerite at 185 Despins Street in Winnipeg. The exposure took place on September 10 involving a health-care worker. Outbreak protocols have been put in place and the facility has restricted visitation. Under the Pandemic Response System the risk level has been moved to Critical (RED).

A previously identified case has been linked to the Health and Transition Services unit at St. Amant’s 440 River Road location in Winnipeg. Close contacts are being identified and case investigations are continuing. The location has initiated outbreak protocols. The facility has moved to Critical (RED) under the Pandemic Response System risk level.

Public health officials continue to advise Manitobans to stay home if you are sick, washing/sanitizing your hands, covering your cough and physically distancing when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, wear a mask.
