COVID-19 claims another life, 193 new cases identified

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 193 new cases of the virus today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 4,894.

The 62nd death has been reported. A male in his 80s from Ste Anne Labroqurie area in the Southern Health Region.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 7.8 per cent. In Winnipeg, the rate is 8.7 per cent

Of the cases reported today there are 21 cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 19 cases in the Southern Health Region, 10 cases in the Northern Health Region, four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region and 139 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are currently 97 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 with 17 of those in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 62.

There are currently 2,409 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. 1,939 of those cases are in Winnipeg. There are 2,423 people are listed as recovered.

3,375 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 251,461.

Public health says that outbreaks have been declared on the medicine unit at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach and at KeKiNan Centre Inc. in Winnipeg. Both facilities have moved to Critical (Red) on the Pandemic Response System.

An outbreak has also been declared at Collège Louis-Riel. The school has seven linked cases. 10 cohorts are self-isolating along with other staff and students. The entire school is moving to remote learning as transmission sources are being investigated. The school had been moved to Orange on the Pandemic Response System.

Flight Information

The province has added a new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site in Winnipeg that will open on Saturday, October 31. The new site is located at the Manitoba Public Insurance building at 125 King Edward Street (Route 90). The site will operate from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm daily.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
