Covid-19 cases spike Sunday, more deaths at Parkview Place

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 161 new cases of the virus today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 4,249.

The five day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 6.9 per cent.

Public health officials also announced four more deaths in Winnipeg due to the virus. A female in her 90s and a male in his 70s, both linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place as well as a male in his 50s and a female in her 80s.

Of the cases reported today there are 10 cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 30 cases in the Southern Health Region, seven cases in the Northern Health Region, four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region and 110 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are currently 77 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 with 15 of those in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 54.

There are currently 2,053 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. 1,645 of those cases are in Winnipeg. There are 2,142 people are listed as recovered.

2,252 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 240,639.

Outbreaks have been declared at Swan Valley Health Centre and Swan Valley Lodge Personal Care Home in Swan River, and both sites have been moved to Critical (red) on the Pandemic Response System.

Public health also advised that they are currently notifying close contacts related to a person who attended a funeral in Norway House on October 20, 2020. Although the person was not showing symptoms they were in the infectious period. Officials advise people who attended the funeral to self-monitor for symptoms.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
