COVID-19 cases spike in Winnipeg with 29 new cases

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 40 new cases of the virus on Friday, September 18, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,540.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 1.7 per cent

Three cases in the Southern Health region, four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region, four cases in Interlake-Eastern Health region and 29 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

There are 11 people being treated in hospital including three people in intensive care.

There are currently 325 active cases of COVID-19 in the province 1,199 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 16.

1,358 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 161,473.

Public health officials are concerned with the increase in the number of cases in Winnipeg. Dr. Brent Roussin, Chief Provincial Public Health Officer strongly encourages residents and visitors to Winnipeg to focus on the fundamentals in order to help stop the spread of the virus. Stay home when sick, wash your hands, cover your cough, physical distant when outside your home and wear a mask.

Officials are also advising to avoid closed-in spaces and close contact with those outside your household.

Visitor restrictions have been removed from Donwood Group Elderly Persons Housing due to the improved situation within the facility. The Pandemic Response System Risk level has moved back to Caution (YELLOW).
