RCMP have charged a 43-year-old corrections officer at Headingley Correctional Centre in connection to the death of 45-year-old William Ahmo in February of 2021.

Ahmo had been involved in a prolonged standoff with corrections officers. The Critical Emergency Response Unit (CERU) extracted the inmate from the area but he quickly became unresponsive. He was transported to hospital where he died seven days later.
An autopsy determined that Ahmo’s death was the result of a homicide.
RCMP Major Crime Services conducted an investigation into the death and sent the report to the Manitoba Prosecution Service for an opinion. The file was then sent to Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General for a second opinion.
RCMP say that based on the consultations Robert Jeffrey Morden was arrested on January 21, 2022 and charged for his alleged involvement with Criminal Negligence Causing Death and Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life.
