On Saturday, December 14, 2024, a fire broke out in a house located in the 200 block of Cordova Street. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of the blaze at 7:03 p.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the residence. An interior attack was launched in the basement of the home but the fire quickly spread into the walls of the storey-and-a-half structure. Firefighters were forced out of the building and continued to attack the fire from the outside.
Firefighters told News4 at the scene that the person who lived in the home was able to safely get out prior to their arrival. No injuries were reported.
Smoke billowed from the roof of the home for several hours as firefighters cut into the roof and walls in an effort to access the flames. The fire was declared under control at 10:43 pm
The cause of the blaze is not yet known but is under investigation. Damage to the home is extensive.
