Cops Chase Drunk from the Air
AIR-1 helped chase down a drunk driver overnight. Around 1am patrol officers spotted a GMC Terrain SUV driving in an erratic and unsafe manner on Osborne and Granite Way. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped off leading police on a chase throughout parts of the downtown. The GMC reached speeds of 110 kph at times.
Winnipeg Police Helicopter AIR-1 became involved and watched the suspect vehicle while collaborating with units on the ground.
The suspect ditched the car on Clonard Avenue and fled on foot but he was still being observed by the eyes in the sky. Patrol officers arrested the suspect shortly afterwards.
A 26 year old male is facing charges of: Drive while Ability Impaired, Drive with More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Resist Peace Officer, Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine, HTA – Drive without licence or with invalid licence.
