COPS BUST TWO, ENDING CRIME SPREE

Winnipeg Police have ended a crime spree in the downtown area after busting a man and a woman.

It all started a couple of months ago when a number of downtown area businesses experienced break-ins. According to police the pair targeted a number of small businesses including corner grocery stores, restaurants, pawn shops, a tattoo shop, laundromat, bakery and clothing stores.

The man and woman stole cash registers, cigarettes, lottery tickets and clothing estimated to be worth $40,000.00. In the process of the thefts the pair also caused more than $17,500.00 in damage to properties. 

Just after 1:30 am Saturday, January 14, 2017 police using Canine members tracked and arrested the suspects after they had broken into a food store in the 800 block of Portage Avenue. 

 Michelle Jazzalyn BIRD, 37  and Cornell Lee BELANGER, 35 have been arrested and charged with  26 counts of Break, Enter and Commit and 28 counts of possession of Break-in Instruments for their alleged involvement.
