Cop suffers broken hand while arresting resisting suspect

A Winnipeg Police officer is suffering from a broken hand after he was involved in a struggle to arrest a suspect attempting to resist.

Police say that on November 14, 2018, officers noticed a stolen vehicle near Provencher Boulevard and Tache Avenue.

AIR-1 was contacted and they tracked the vehicle until it came to a stop in the back lane on Talbot Avenue. Observers in AIR-1 watched a man and a woman exit the vehicle and walk away but officers on the ground quickly stopped them.

As the male suspect was being placed under arrest he resisted and struggled with an officer which resulted in the officer’s injury.

A search of the male found keys to the stolen vehicle and a stolen debit card.

Michael Dwayne Gunnar Dahlin, 25 from Winnipeg is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including:

  • Drive without a licence or with an invalid licence (Highway Traffic Act)

Police also arrested a 25-year-old female suspect from Winnipeg and have charged her with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
