A Winnipeg Police officer is suffering minor injuries after he was dragged nearly 250 feet by a suspect trying to evade arrest.
Police say that the incident happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 21, 2017. in the 300 block of St. Mary Avenue after officers noticed fresh damage to a vehicle.
Police made a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the male driver was wanted on two arrest warrants and court-ordered conditions. As police told the driver he was under arrest he sped off dragging the officer along the road before he could free himself.
The vehicle got away but was found a short time later in the 200 block of Balmoral Street. No one was in the vehicle when it was located but prior to being abandoned, it had collided with two parked vehicles.
Police know who the suspect is but won’t release his name until a new arrest warrant has been issued.
