Cooking blamed for fire in Vince Leah Drive home

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) say that cooking is to blame for a fire in a home on Vince Leah Drive on September 5, 2019.

Crews were called to the bungalow just before 10:00 pm and found a fire in the kitchen of the home.

Firefighters were quickly able to get the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is considered an accident and was due to unattended cooking.

WFPS says that it is important to remain in the kitchen at all times while cooking. They warn anything can catch fire including oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging and other materials found in a kitchen. If you are cooking with oil be extra careful and make sure to heat the oil slowly. If the oil catches fire you can cover the pot with a lid or use a kitchen fire extinguisher to put it out. NEVER use water to put out an oil fire.
