Convicted letter bomber Guido Amsel has filed a motion to have his convictions overturned after being sentenced for bombings in 2013 and 2015.
According to court documents Amsel claims that one of his lawyers planted evidence with the Winnipeg Police Service and that the judge erred related to the analysis of evidence as well as the credibility of witnesses in the case including his ex-wife.

On November 22, 2018, Amsel was sentenced by Provincial Court Judge Tracy Lord to life in prison for attempting to murder his ex-wife and two lawyers Maria Mitousis and George Orle.
Mitousis was seriously injured when a bomb exploded in her hand after she opened a package sent to her in the mail. She had been Amsel’s ex-wife’s lawyer during a civil case about money that was owed to her from the divorce proceeding years earlier.
Amsel indicated that he would be representing himself because he was financially strapped and he did not trust the legal aid system.
