Suspect wanted for sexual assault and arson arrested by police

Winnipeg Police have taken a wanted alleged sexual assailant and arsonist off the streets.

In August of 2017, Winnipeg Police issued a plea for help in locating Leslie Reid Contois, a 42-year-old male from Winnipeg. At the time he was wanted for a sexual assault that had happened on July 15, 2017. He was also wanted in connection with an arson on Sherbrook Street on July 28, 2017, that sent six people to the hospital and caused more than one million dollars in damages.

On Monday afternoon, November 20, 2017, police were called to the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue for a report of a disturbance in an apartment building.

 

 

Police found Contois inside and arrested him.

Contois is facing charges for his alleged involvement of:

  •  Sexual Assault with a Weapon
  • Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle Another Person
  • Attempt Murder (x2)
  • Arson with Disregard for Human Life
  • Poss of Incendiary Material
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Unlawfully Cause Bodily Harm (x6)
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (x2)
  • Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x18)
  • Breach of Recognizance (x6)

Contois remains in custody.
