The City of Winnipeg, along with its partners, the Province of Manitoba, Manitoba Hydro, Trails Manitoba, and Bike Winnipeg, broke ground on the Northwest Hydro Corridor Multi-use Path Project on Friday, July 22, 2022.
The project is a 2.4-kilometre multi-use path within the hydro corridor west of McPhillips between Leila Avenue and Church Avenue. The path will be 4.5 metres in width to accommodate multiple user groups like cyclists, active commuters and residents requiring accessible pathways. The project will also feature lighting, benches, controlled crossings at Leila, Jefferson and Inkster and connections into surrounding neighbourhoods.
The city says that the total project cost is $2,564,346 of which includes a grant of $450,000 from Trails Manitoba and the province.
Phase two of the project is slated for 2024.
