Conditions outside Winnipeg force Highway closures

Although it took a few extra hours for the snowstorm to reach the City of Winnipeg accumulations are still expected to reach 30 – 40 cm by the time it tapers off on Friday.

Manitoba RCMP had announced that they would be closing Highways in advance of the storm but ended up waiting as conditions were not bad enough overnight.

By morning that changed and conditions on highways outside the city became hazardous in many areas with a number of highways closed including:

  • Highway 1 west of Winnipeg to the Saskatchewan border
  • Highway 2 to just west of Highway 10
  • Highway 3 to Highway 83
  • Highway 5 to Highway 261
  • Highway 6 from the Perimeter (101) to Lundar
  • Highway 7 from the Perimeter (101) to Komarno
  • Highway 10 from the U.S. border to Highway 45
  • Highway 13 from Carmen to Highway 1
  • Highway 14 from Highway 75 to Highway 3
  • Highway 16 from Highway 1 to Highway 466
  • Highway 18 from U.S. border to Highway 2
  • Highway 21 from U.S. Border to Highway 23
  • Highway 23 from Morris to Highway 21
  • Highway 75 from the U,S, border to Winnipeg
  • Perimeter Highway (101)

Environment Canada expects conditions to improve by Friday. Until then travel outside the City is not recommended.
