One injured in Colony Square apartment fire

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating the cause of a high-rise fire on Thursday afternoon, January 31, 2019.

The fire started just after 2:30 pm in the 17 storey Colony Square apartment building on St. Mary Avenue.

Firefighters were able to keep the blaze contained to a single suite on the 14th floor but evacuated three floors as a precaution. Fire crews were able to knock out the fire in about 30 min.

One person who was in the suite at the time of the fire was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

According to a statement from the city, there was extensive fire, water and smoke damage to the suite and minor water damage to several other suites.

The cause of the blaze in not known and there is no estimate of damage.
