RCMP at the Winnipeg International Airport were contacted on Sunday afternoon, July 25, 2021, about a package containing drugs destined to a northern Manitoba First Nation.
Police say that a security check of cargo being shipped to Bunibonibee Cree Nation (Oxford House) uncovered a large package that appeared to have been tampered with. Further inspection by security employees at the shipping business found 440 grams of cocaine inside the package that was then seized by police.
On Monday, July 26, the male who had dropped off the package for shipment returned to the business to pick up a different package. Police placed the man under arrest. Officers seized 167 T3s that were destined for Kinosao Sipi (Norway House Cree Nation). An undisclosed amount of cash was also seized.
36-year-old Joseph Muskego from Kinosao Sipi, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine x2, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
Police say that Muskego was on parole at the time of his arrest and was therefore remanded into custody.
