Fire investigators say that improperly disposed of coals from a bonfire may be responsible for the fire in a Cairnsmore Street fire early Friday morning, September 10, 2021.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire around 3:46 am and encountered smoke and flames coming from the one-and-a-half-storey home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:32 am.
A fire alarm inside the home alerted the single occupant and they were able to get out before emergency crews arrived on the scene. A cat was rescued from inside the home and reunited with the owner.
No injuries were reported
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
