Citywide Spring Cleanup Prepares Winnipeg for Fresh Season

Winnipeg gears up for its annual citywide spring cleanup starting Sunday, April 14. Following closely, the yard waste program is set to commence the week of April 29.

Over the next six weeks, the city’s comprehensive cleanup effort will cover the entire street network, including roadways, bridges, sidewalks, pathways, boulevards, medians on major routes, and city parks. This mammoth task involves over 300 pieces of equipment and approximately 500 workers.

To ensure smooth operations, Winnipeggers are advised to stay informed through the city’s website, winnipeg.ca/springcleanup, and the Know Your Zone app. “Regularly checking for no parking signs and relocating vehicles when necessary is crucial to avoid penalties,” says the city in a media release.

While temporary no parking signs will be strategically placed, it’s emphasized that parking on these routes hampers cleanup efforts and may result in a $150 fine or towing at the owner’s expense. For those unsure about their towed vehicles’ whereabouts, contacting 311 is advised.

The online portal offers safety tips, FAQs, and a searchable map displaying the status of residential street cleanups. Additionally, the Know Your Zone app will provide real-time updates on temporary parking restrictions.

In addition to street cleaning, residents are reminded not to deposit yard waste onto streets, as it can obstruct drainage and lead to flooding. Instead, yard waste should be placed for regular garbage collection or taken to designated drop-off points.

The curbside yard waste collection program will kick off the week of April 29 for area “A” and the week of May 6 for area “B.” Residents can easily determine their collection day by visiting winnipeg.ca/collectioncalendar or contacting 311.

With these concerted efforts, Winnipeg aims to greet the spring season with cleanliness and readiness for the warmer months ahead. For more details on the yard waste collection program, visit winnipeg.ca/yardwaste.
