A 2.33% property tax increase is part of the $1.1 billion preliminary budget for 2017.
The Executive Policy Committee held a special meeting this morning to release the proposed budget.
For the average homeowner that percentage increase amounts to about $38 per year in more tax.
The budget earmarks the increase infrastructure; 2% to road repair and 0.33% to the rapid transit expansion.
Here is how the city plans on spending your money;
- Street Renewal $105.2 million
- Transit $191 million (down $9 million from 2016)
- Police $288 million (Up $3.6 million) PLUS $20 million to build a new north end police station
- Fire & Paramedics $199 Million (Up 4% from 2016)
- Assiniboine Park is getting $10.8 million for infrastructure
- Seven Oaks Pool gets $8 million for repairs and upgrades
- Tache Promenade (a walkway alone the Red River) $5.2 million
- 2017 Canada Summer Games $ 750,000
- Aboriginal Youth Strategy $ 1.75 million
There will be no change in frontage fees or sewer and water rates.
Council will vote on the budget at a special meeting on Dec 13, 2016.
