It was established in 2011 to help Winnipeg home owners protect themselves from basement flooding but as of 2017 the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program will end.
The city says that in the first few years of the program it was extremely popular but 2016 has seen very few applications in comparison.
The subsidy would pay up to 60% of the labour costs associated with the first time installation of sump pumps and backwater valves to a maximum of $3000.
The program was funded by the province and the city but the city says that the province has pulled their portion which contributed to the decision to end the subsidy.
