City cleanup begins on Earth Day

Winnipeg is set to get much cleaner over the next several weeks as city crews hit the streets for the annual cleanup on Monday April 22, 2019.

The $6 million operation will be removing sand and debris from more than 7,000 kilometres of streets, 1600 kilometres of walkways and over 50 bridges and medians.

The city says that the operation will take about six weeks to complete and will cover the entire street network as well as back lanes. More than 500 people will be involved in the project with about 300 pieces of equipment being used.

During the cleanup temporary “no parking” signs will be put up on some streets to restrict parking during schedule clean times. Although not all streets will be signed the city is asking people to find alternate parking during posted clean times.
