A new process for challenging a parking ticket is coming into effect August 8,2016. The Province made changes to The Municipal By-law Enforcement Act (MBEA) including how parking tickets are dealt with.
Drivers will no longer go to Provincial Court to challenge parking tickets in front of a Judicial Justice of the Peace. Instead, as of August 8th motorists who feel a ticket was issued unfairly or in error will appear before a City of Winnipeg screening officer at the Winnipeg Parking Authority located at 495 Portage Avenue. There will also be the ability to challenge the ticket online.
If drivers are not happy with the result of their challenge a second level of review by a provincially-appointed adjudicator will also be available to contest their ticket further for a fee of $25 which will be refunded if the challenge is successful.
There is no fee charged for the initial review of a ticket by a City of Winnipeg screening officer.
