City owned fitness facilities and more libraries set to re-open

The City of Winnipeg announced that beginning on March 8 they will be reopening a number of recreation and leisure facilities that had been forced to close due to COVID-19.

The facilities that are reopening will be limited to fitness service only. Pools and arenas will remain closed.

75 part-time temporary employees will be recalled from layoff to support the opening of the facilities which are:

  • Chief Peguis Fitness Centre
  • Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex
  • Elmwood Kildonans Pool
  • Fort Rouge Leisure Centre
  • Freight House Recreation Centre
  • Kinsmen Sherbook Pool
  • Pan Am Pool
  • Sergeant Tommy Prince Place
  • St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool

Due to capacity restrictions residents are encouraged to book blocks in advance. Capacity limits are in place to ensure physical distancing. Fitness areas will be closed for 30 minutes between the two-hour blocks to sanitize. Change rooms will not be available in any facility.

Those using the facilities will be required to provide contact information by scanning a QR code on their smartphone and filling in the digital form.

As of Monday March 1, 2021 all Winnipeg Public Library branches will be open for holds pickups and returns only.

The city says all branches will have expanded hours and be open on Saturdays

The Cornish Library will remain closed due to ongoing renovations.
