Traffic flow expected to improve with WAZE and the city of Winnipeg Transportation Management Centre
After spending $3.6 million the city of Winnipeg has opened it’s Transportation Management Centre (TMC).
Thought the use of the data collected at the TMC the city expects traffic flow to improve. Real time traffic data is also shared with the free WAZE app giving Winnipegers a valuable tool while navigating the streets.
TMC Operators can monitor 650 intersections in the city and are able to remotely respond to issues with signals or other incidents as they occur
The TMC will generate traffic information from their in-house system but also get information from 311, remote sensors and Winnipeg drivers through the WAZE app.
WAZE is a navigation system that is free to download for IOS and Android devices. It provides real-time data on traffic accidents, road closures and incidents. The app is able to look ahead on your route, see if there are any issues or traffic related information like red light cameras and reroute you if necessary.
News4 Winnipeg was the first broadcast partner of WAZE in Manitoba and has been actively promoting the News4 Traffic Trackers Team within the app.
