The search is on for Winnipeg’s perfect Christmas tree

Tis the season… ok not really since it is not even Thanks Giving yet!

The City of Winnipeg is looking for the perfect Christmas tree to put on display in front of City Hall and needs your help.

Anyone interested in donating a large spruce tree on their property for the annual display is asked to contact the city.

Before you make the call however there are certain criteria that the tree has to meet before it is worthy of standing outside the civic government offices.

The tree must be located in the front yard of a homeowners property that has direct access. There must be no overhead power or utility lines near the tree. It must stand a minimum 12 metres but be no taller than 15 metres (about 40 to 50 ft). It must not have any brown needles and most importantly it must be fully symmetrical with a single trunk.

If you meet the criteria members of the Urban Forestry Branch may consider your tree in this years selection. The tree that best meets the criteria will be selected.

You won’t be given any cash for your donation but the city will remove it at no cost to you and clean up the debris as well. You will also get to have bragging rights if your tree is selected.

If you are interested in submitting your tree fro consideration then reach out to the city and call 311.
