If city council approves it growth fees could be the reality in Winnipeg as early as January 1, 2017.
The controversial plan has come under fire from developers and home builders in recent weeks who claim it would adversely affect the new construction industry in Winnipeg.
A report on the issue suggests that a charge of $10 per square foot be applied to all new homes built, $15 per square foot for commercial buildings and $22 per square foot for office space.
Government buildings, Manitoba housing, schools and garages would be exempt.
