Mayor Brian Bowman has given an early Christmas gift to six community centres in Winnipeg.
As part of the Community Centre Renovation Grant six community centres owned by the city will be given funding to renovate their facilities totalling $255,627.45.
“Community centres have always been more than just meeting places for sports and events in our neighbourhoods,” said Bowman. “They are the places where pride in our communities and each other begin. I’m happy the City of Winnipeg is able to support these important improvements and upgrades to ensure our community centres continue to thrive.”
Community centres receiving the grants are:
Sinclair Park | West Kildonan |
Central | Norquay |
St. Norbert | Tuxedo |
The grant program has been around since 2012 and it ensures city-owned community centres have the funds needed to complete facility repairs.
Each community centre applicant is eligible for 100 per cent support of project costs to a maximum of $50,000 per project per calendar year.
Annually there is just over $950K available in the fund.
