City closes amenities, cancels permits and relaxes some parking restrictions

The City of Winnipeg announced on Friday, March 27, 2020, that they are closing all amenities within city-owned parks including play structures and picnic shelters.

Although city parks will remain open for now, residents are being reminded to exercise physical distancing while enjoying those space.

Dog parks will also continue to remain open but social distancing should continue to be observed.

All permits issued for special events and festivals until the end of June 2020, have been suspended. The city says this is due to the provincial recommendations that limit gatherings of more than 10 people.

In an effort to support businesses the city says that temporary “curbside pick-up locations” will be added in select areas of Downtown and the Exchange District. These areas will allow free parking for 15 minutes while picking up food or retail items.

One hour of free parking will be offered at all city-owned parking meters throughout the Winnipeg.

Parking time restrictions will also not be enforced in residential areas of the city but all other parking restrictions will be enforced.
