City Bus Incident Leads to Arrest in Winnipeg

On January 17, at approximately 12:15 p.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to a report of a male passenger on a city bus who was in possession of a hatchet. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old John Todd Savage of Winnipeg, was taken into custody after disembarking from the bus at Pioneer Avenue and Main Street.

The investigation revealed that Savage had boarded the bus when a fellow passenger noticed the hatchet and contacted the police. Fortunately, the suspect did not threaten anyone with the weapon, and no injuries were reported. The hatchet was recovered by the bus operator, who had taken it from Savage earlier.

While in custody, Savage threatened to kill the attending officers. He now faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement, including Possession of a Weapon, Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (x2), Fail to Comply with Probation Order, and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. Savage remains in custody.
