CITY | BUDGET PASSES DESPITE OPPOSITION

Despite a last minute amendment proposal and passionate speeches opposed to the 2016/2017 city budget, council passed it by a vote of 11-5.

Bickering back and forth throughout the special council meeting did nothing to gain the trust of Winnipeg’s taxpayers. Councillor Janice Lukes (South Winnipeg-St. Norbert) commented that council had failed in their messaging as the morning session ended.

Council voted down Russ Wyatt’s (Transcona) motion to increase property taxes 2%  higher to ensure more road repairs take place.
