CITY | ANIMAL SERVICES OFFERS AMNESTY FOR PET OWNERS

The City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency offers amnesty  for people who haven’t bought a  licence for their pets. The reprieve runs from August 22, 2016 to September 30, 2016.

The amnesty mean you will not be fined or subjected to retroactive license fees.

A City of Winnipeg by-law states that all dogs and cats over the age of six months must be licenced or owners will be subject to a $250 fine.

The amnesty is being offered in one last attempt to get pet owners to comply with the by-law because effective October 1, 2016, Winnipeg will become a zero-tolerance pet licensing city.

Animal Services claim that zero tolerance means that if you are a pet owner and your pet does not have a current licence, you will be immediately subject to a $250 fine. They also state that if your pet is impounded without a licence you will be charged additional fees and your pet can be adopted out to another family if you do not pay up and claim your pet within three days.

The city says that pets who are wearing a current licence will be returned to the owner free of charge as impound and boarding fees are waived.
