For the second time in as many days, citizens have apprehended suspects while they were committing crimes against others.
On Saturday, September 16, 2017, two Winnipegers and a loss prevention officer caught a 32-year-old man after he had attempted to carjack a woman in her 50’s.
Police say the man approached an SUV in a parking lot of a store he had just robbed in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway. It began just after 6:00 pm when the man stole a number of items valued more than $800. As he left the store he was stopped by a loss prevention officer. The suspect produced a small taser-like device and took off into the parking lot where he then attempted to carjack the woman in his attempt to get away. The suspect was held for police.
Police continued to investigate and have linked two other robberies to the suspect.
On August 11, 2017, the suspect used bolt cutters to steal two bicycles from a basement of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Westwood Drive.
On September 5, 2017, around 8:00 pm the suspect stole about $200 worth of merchandise from a grocery store in the 3100 block of Portage Avenue.
32-year-old Stefan Josef Blab from Winnipeg has been arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of robbery, two counts of theft under $5000, break enter and theft, carrying a concealed weapon, failure to comply with a condition of recognizance by a judge/justice.
