Man busted after police and MB Finance SIU find 810,000 cigarettes

Manitoba Finance Taxation Special Investigation Unit (MFTSIU) with help from Winnipeg Police arrested 72-year-old Dennis Donald Lange for his alleged part in smuggling 810,000 cigarettes into Manitoba from Ontario.

MFTSIU says that the contraband smokes are worth close to $240,000 in tax revenue.

Lange is facing a number of Criminal charges for trafficking in contraband tobacco as well as charges for failing to appear relating to previous charges.

If convicted Lange could receive fines up to $50,000 plus a mandatory tax penalty of close to one million dollars as the penalty is quadrupled because of a previous conviction of the accused.
