Chuch could get hefty fine for breaching COVID-19 restrictions

Manitoba Enforcement officials have laid charges against Church of God Restoration in the RM of Hanover for repeated offenses in contravention of public health orders.

Officials say that the matter will be decided by the courts which will determine the amount of the fine that could be as high as $1 million.

The charges were laid between May 31 and June 6, 2021.

Over the same period, 219 people received warnings and 131 received tickets for breaching public health regulations.

124 people were handed tickets in the amount of $1,296, of those 116 were related to gatherings.

Five people were fined $298 for not wearing a mask in an indoor public place and one business received a $5,000 ticket for breaches to restrictions.

Officials say that over the last week conservation and park patrol officers gave out 35 tickets to individuals within provincial parks for not following public health orders.
