On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, the City of Winnipeg interim chief administrative officer Michael Ruta announced that Christian Schmidt has been promoted to chief of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
Schmidt currently is a deputy chief of the service in charge of operations and communications. He has been a member of the service for the past 27 years.
Schmidt takes over from John Lane on August 14. Lane announced his retirement earlier this year after spending more than four decades in emergency services in Toronto, Prince George, BC and the last seven year in Winnipeg.
