5-year-old dies in McCreary house fire

RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire on Thursday, November 28, 2019, that claimed the life of a child.

Police say that they received a report of a house fire on 4th Avenue in McCreary around 1:40 am. McCreary is about 250 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

Witnesses told police that the house was fully involved and people were trapped inside.

Members of McCreary’s Citizens on Patrol Program were able to make their way into the burning structure and rescue a 28-year-old female and a 3-year-old child.

The adult female suffered serious injuries. The child suffered non-life threatening injuries. both were taken to hospital.

A five-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues.
