Child Abuse Unit is investigating three incidents near Winnipeg schools

Winnipeg Police Service is investigating several suspicious incidents that occurred near schools in the River East Transcona and Louis Riel School Divisions on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

According to police around 3:45 pm two youths between 9 and 11 years old were approached by a man on the Wayoata Elementary School grounds. The suspect allegedly spoke with the youths and at one point tried to pull them towards him. The students pulled away and the man fled on foot towards Kildare Avenue East. He is described as being about 30 years old.

The second incident happened at approximately 4:45 pm near Arthur Day Middle School when a man described as being about 40 years of age attempted to lure an 11-year-old to his residence with a promise of candy and video games. The suspect grabbed the youth but the victim pulled away and the man fled in a 4-door grey sedan before police arrived.

Around 5:00 pm police received a report from Victor H.L Wyatt School that earlier in the day a man between 40 and 50 years of age was watching children during the lunch hour. The man did not approach or speak to any of the children but he fled when approached by school officials.
