The annual holiday Checkstop program across the province is into the final stretches. Here are the numbers for the Checkstops performed by the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP
Winnipeg Police Service
Week 4 – Friday, December 22 to Thursday, December 28
- 332 vehicles were stopped.
- 21 road-side breath tests administered resulting in 1 fail and 3 warn (72 hr DL suspension).
- 8 impaired driving-related arrests (Highest BAC was three times the statutory limit)
- 1 other criminal arrest
- 10 traffic tickets
Manitoba RCMP
Week 3 – December 18, 2017, to December 24, 2017
- 1960 vehicles checked
- 22 people charged with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence (all alcohol related)
- The highest blood/alcohol reading reported was 230 mgs% (0.230 – almost 3x the legal limit).
- 10 alcohol related tiered administrative roadside suspensions
- 588 traffic related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid (the majority for speeding and seatbelt offences) along with 142 warnings for various other offences
- 9 Liquor & Gaming Control Act (LGCA) offences
- 6 Other Criminal Code Driving Offences
