Police services across the province are conducting their annual Checkstop programs in an effort to take people who drink and drive off the roads.
Here are the numbers for the second week of the program
Winnipeg Police Service – Week 2 – Friday, December 8 to Thursday, December 14
- A total of 1,354 vehicles were stopped.
- 26 road-side breath tests administered resulting in 5 warns and 1 fails.
- 14 impaired driving-related arrests, (1 of which was a Drug Impaired Driver)
- 44 tickets were issued.

Manitoba RCMP – Week 1 December 1 to December 10
2383 vehicles checked across Manitoba during 51 Checkstops.
Results from both Checkstops and regular patrols include:
- 50 people charged with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence (all alcohol related)
- The highest blood/alcohol reading reported was 340 mgs% (0.340-more than 4x legal limit)
- 23 alcohol-related tiered administrative roadside suspensions
- 882 traffic-related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid (majority for speeding and seatbelt offences) along with 200 warnings
- 10 Liquor & Gaming Control Act (LGCA) offences
- 11 Other Criminal Code Driving Offences
RCMP report that there were no traffic-related fatalities during the first week of the program.
