Winnipeg Police Festive Season Checkstop program underway

Tis the season of Christmas cheer, flashing red and blue lights and the annual Festive Season Checkstop program.

For the month of December, Winnipeg Police are on the streets looking for impaired drivers.

In the first week of the program, officers stopped 1602 vehicles and administered 88 roadside breath tests with six people blowing a warning and one person blowing a fail.

One person tested positive for cannabis using the new Oral Fluid Device test. Police say that between December 1st and 7th 89 Provincial Offence Act tickets were handed out, two people were arrested for non-driving criminal charges. A total of five impaired driving charges were laid (one due to drugs).

Impaired driving is 100% preventable and is the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada.

If you drink or do drugs DON’T DRIVE!
