Festive Season Checkstop turns up stolen vehicle, drugs & suspended driver

Although known for taking drunk drivers off the roads Winnipeg’s annual Festive Season Checkstop also ropes in the occasional stolen vehicle, Stolen licence plates, suspended driver and even illegal drugs, just not usually all in the same vehicle.
Early Tuesday morning, December 11, 2018 Police were conducting the Checkstop program on Main Street at Assiniboine Avenue when they directed a vehicle into line for a random check.
They quickly found out the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before and that the licence plates did not belong to the vehicle. They had also been stolen. Inside the vehicle, officers found three more plates.
It also turns out that the 25-year-old female driver was required to have an ignition interlock device and did not have a valid licence. The driver was placed under arrest and during a search of her police found .65 grams of heroin.
The 17-year-old passenger was also found to be violating a court-ordered condition and was also taken into custody.
Police say that the vehicle had been stolen after the owner had left it running with the keys inside.
Both accused were detained in custody.
