Winnipeg Checkstop program nets stolen car and drug impaired driver

A 42-year-old male is behind bars after he was stopped during the annual Festive Checkstop program that was set up at Main Street and Market Avenue on Wednesday evening, December 6, 2017.

Around 9:30 pm police encountered a driver who appeared to be impaired by a drug. He did not have a drivers licence nor the contract for the rental car he was driving. Officers also noticed a syringe in the car and the driver admitted to officers he had injected methamphetamines earlier.

The driver was arrested and in searching him police found additional meth in his possession.

As the male was processed it was determined that he had told arresting officers a false name. His real name was discovered after police checked his fingerprints. Officers also learned that the car he was driving had been stolen from Scarborough, Ontario but had not been reported.

Rommel Celfo Jimenez, 42 was arrested and charged for his involvement with:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance-Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Public Mischief
  • Drive While Ability Impaired
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance

He was detained in custody.
