Winnipeg police have completed the third week of the Festive Season Checkstop Program.
805 vehicles were stopped during checkstops throughout the city last week which resulted in 121 roadside breath tests being conducted. 16 people blew warnings and were given immediate roadside driving prohibitions. During the week 21 impaired drivers were arrested, four of them had been involved in significant collisions including an off-duty police officer.
Police also issued 40 Highway Traffic Act (HTA) tickets during the checkstops.
Impaired driving is among the highest causes of death in Canada and is also 100% preventable.
