Charges laid in fatal motorcycle crash on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg Police have charged a 44-year-old male from Steinbach in connection to a fatal collision between a minivan and a motorcycle.

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, a motorcycle travelling west on Portage Avenue hit the van crossing Portage Avenue at Home Street. The motorcyclist, Matt Cave, was seriously injured and taken to hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

The driver and passenger in the van took off on foot after the collision.

On March 23, 2019 the driver of the van was arrested and is facing charges of Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Involving Death, Drive While Disqualified, Drive without Licence and Drive Suspended.

He was released by police on a promise to appear.
